Hi my name is Ron Nelsen, and I am running for Assembly District 2! If we haven’t met before, here is a chance to learn more about me and my campaign!

​I was born and raised in Nebraska, to a hard working class family and two entrepreneurs. At a young age I joined my family's business of selling, servicing and installation of garage doors and openers. Forty-two years ago my family decided it was time to expand the family business and I moved here to Las Vegas, Nevada to set up shop. I fell in love with the city, and decided it was the best place for me to raise my family, and forty-two years later we are proud to still call Assembly District 2 our home.

As a small business owner of forty-two years, I have been privileged to work alongside some of Nevada’s hardest working individuals and other hard working public servants. Many of which come to work everyday with the goal of providing for their families. Their work ethic has inspired me not only as an employer but as a candidate to go to bat for them everyday creating the best benefits and opportunities for them to support their families. I am grateful to receive the support and endorsement of our Culinary unions, as I am a staunch supporter and advocate for Nevada's workers.

My experience as an employer, and small business owner I understand the importance of creating economic opportunities within our communities, increasing wages to match the cost of living, providing and making healthcare accessible and affordable for everyone. I spent years negotiating healthcare benefits for my employees that were fair and allowed them to take care of themselves and their families, and I am committed to doing that in the legislature.

Outside of my business I found ways to support my community through my church and several community service endeavors, helping members of my district and community wherever, and however I can. 

​

I am a pro-choice candidate, who believes in protecting the right to reproductive freedom, access to abortion, and will work to expand the access to reproductive care in the Nevada legislature. 

​

As a father of two amazing children, I understand the importance of a quality education, and the need to invest in our schools to ensure teachers and students have the resources they need to provide our children with a quality education. It is no secret that our teachers are underpaid and our schools are underfunded. I will fight to increase funding to our schools and increase the wages of our teachers and support staff. 

​

I am running for Assembly District 2 because I believe in what Nevada represents, a young state full of economic opportunities, diversity, and a strong belief in protecting our freedoms. I believe in working together, to shape the future of our state and making it the Nevada our children can be proud of.
